Chapter 32
“Conclude and send him away.”
Kairos casually stood up from his seat, displaying a lazy demeanor akin to a sleepy beast stretching. Carrion, partially losing consciousness, managed to comprehend the words and murmured in protest as his instincts signaled danger.
Despite being overwhelmed by fear and finding it difficult to breathe, Carrion mustered his strength to speak.
“Uh…! I-I’m sorry, I did something wrong. I did something wrong!”
Nonetheless, Kairos disregarded the plea with a nonchalant gesture before turning away without showing any sympathy towards the disheveled man.
“You’re noisy.”
“I will handle it right away.”
Sid responded, bowing his head in acceptance. He knew that if he disturbed his master’s current state of mind, it might spark unnecessary conflict. Having served as Kairos’ aide for years, he had grown accustomed to this.
‘I hope the captive returns soon.’
Sid continued to hold onto the wish.
He believed it was important to keep a close watch on the captive once she came back. Initially, he had thought it would be easier if the captive disappeared, but that was not the case. Perhaps an even more dreadful fate awaited him.
…He must keep the captive restrained at all costs.
Sid silently held his breath, contemplating various methods until Kairos completely left the room. As soon as Kairos left, he roughly kicked Carrion, who had fainted, aside.
“Why did you have to touch her, of all people? Ahem! No, you shouldn’t have touched her.”
Then, he clapped his hands and called another subordinate.
“Get in touch with Ralph Molli. Tell him we have good news.”
Afterwards, he hummed a tune, pondering how long he should continue humming.
As I followed Dylan into the training ground, I observed everyone fully immersed in their training, except for the knights on duty. They diligently practiced, clad in their training uniforms just as I had last seen them—these practice fanatics.
“Hey, who should I…?”
“Wait, they’re in the middle of training. They would hate being disturbed, right?”
I interrupted Dylan, who was trying to make my presence known.
Reuniting would be awkward, and I didn’t want to disrupt my comrade’s focus. Since I joined the Knights Order, I’ve gone on several missions with these people. Participating in missions was enjoyable for me, requiring less effort and significantly reducing the time required to work.
That was why I often went out, even during the processing of resignation letters.
Due to the dispute with Jed and the resignation issue, I was mentally preoccupied and couldn’t have proper conversations with my comrades. Furthermore, some faces were unfamiliar to me, leading to awkward exchanges of forced smiles and stilted greetings.
As I watched my old comrade sweating profusely and training as if I didn’t exist, someone turned their head.
“Huh?”
The knight beside them also halted their movements, fixing their gaze upon me.
“…Hazel?”
Simultaneously, the knights who had been diligently focused on their training all redirected their attention towards me. There was a brief pause as they froze, followed by a cascade of expressions on their faces as if caught off guard.
“Hazel? Is it really Hazel? The Hazel Love?”
“Wow, how long has it been?”
“Is it true? Hazel really came?”
“Are you coming back again? Are you rejoining the knights?”
They roared with excitement, putting their swords back into their sheaths and approaching me with towels in hand. The surroundings became noisy with overwhelming hospitality. As someone who had once fled from the knights, I honestly didn’t expect such a warm welcome.
“It’s been a while. I didn’t come back, just came to visit for a while.”
When I awkwardly smiled and greeted them, some of them let out deep sighs.
“Ah, so you’re not rejoining the knights…”
“I thought Hazel was coming back.”
“Hey, you said you came to visit. Didn’t you mention going down to the provinces? Where was it?”
Lux asked, wiping off the sweat trickling down his face amidst the collective sighs of the knights.
On days when they only trained without going to the office, most of them would just show up wearing towels loosely draped over their training uniforms.
However, Lux, whether in uniform or training attire, always dressed as if he was attending a ball, perfectly groomed. He said he had to meet the expectations of the young ladies who came to see the knights’ impressive appearance or something like that.
With his neatly combed blond hair and slightly drooping eyes, Lux was skilled in wielding both the bow and the sword.
Among them, he excelled in archery, utilizing his innate precision and swift movements. Since I was also often involved in rear operations, I was well aware of that. In fact, I received his help during my first mission shortly after adapting to the Knights Order.
“You seem a bit off today. It happens to everyone. Step back.”
“Ah, it’s fine. Just trying to adapt…”
“Adapt?”
“No, it’s nothing. Thanks for your concern.”
“Since I received your words of gratitude, I guess I have no choice but to step up. Today, I’ll just pretend to be in the back.”
Perhaps that was why seeing his face again made me somewhat happy.
“Oh, right! Ferrarium, was it? Did you come back to the capital?”
“I came back for a moment because I had some business, and I coincidentally ran into Dylan. I should’ve run away right then!”
In a fit of anger, I clenched my fist and vented my frustration. My comrades burst into laughter.
“Yeah, you should’ve run away quickly. Why bother listening to this guy’s requests? If it were me, I would have run away as soon as we met. Have a good time while you’re here. Welcome back!”
“Hey, why are you all talking about me like that?”
Dylan asked, sounding flustered.
This only made everyone laugh even more. Consequently, my tension completely melted away.
“Um, by the way, I heard a new illusionist has joined.”
The bustling surroundings suddenly grew eerily quiet.
‘…What could have happened?’
“Ah… yeah, they joined.”
Lux murmured with a sigh. It was a voice mixed with a sigh.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
Another knight echoed. I tilted my head in confusion.
“Aren’t you guys happy? The missions should be much easier now.”
“Of course! We felt the same way at first.”
Josh, who was standing next to Lux, said while pulling his hair out.
He was a skilled swordsman, second only to Dylan. He maintained a neat ponytail with his dark blue long hair. He possessed elongated facial features and thick eyebrows, similar to Lux, which made him popular among the young ladies. However, he had a tendency to become somewhat flustered when he spoke.
“They seem to have a similar reaction as you…”
When I turned my head slightly and said to Dylan, he lightly tapped my shoulder and whispered softly.
“You saw it exactly. The reason is… well, it’s big,”
Dylan replied, turning his head in the opposite direction before finishing his sentence.
“What about Fay Martin?”
That was when it happened.
“Ahh!”
A high-pitched scream was heard from somewhere. Everyone, instead of being startled, lowered their heads and trembled as unintelligible words accompanied the scream.
I was the only one taken aback.
“There they are. I’ll bring them here. They’re in the middle of a conversation.”
Dylan chuckled bitterly.
While Dylan went to fetch the mage called Fay, the knights crowded around me. Almost twenty of them insisted they wanted to witness the meeting between the two illusionists. They refused to go back to training and instead stood their ground.
Didn’t expect so many knights to gather like this, I could gradually feel their anticipation seeping into my skin. The more I felt it, the worse my premonition became. It felt like something was about to go terribly wrong.
Maybe I should just say I’m busy and leave…?
“By the way, how’s Ferrarium?”
Josh, who was just tearing his hair a moment ago, asked.
“Amazing! I love it. It’s peaceful here, unlike this place.”
Of course, there was an unimaginably terrifying figure lurking there as well.
“Ah, should I retire and go to Ferrarium as well?”
“Oh, then let me know in advance. I’ll have to leave Ferrarium in a hurry before that.”
“After not seeing you for so long, you say something like this?”
Josh’s expression became sullen.
“Dylan would have said the same thing. Please don’t disturb my peace.”
“I agree with Hazel. He kept complaining about being bored even in Elkard. I’m sure he would have bothered you every day to play with him. He bothered me when you’re not here, too.”
Lux crossed his arms and shrugged his shoulders next to me.
“D*mn it. I didn’t expect my reputation to be ruined like this. I’m not supposed to be on par with Dylan.”
If Dylan were here, he would have definitely rolled his eyes. Nevertheless, he chuckled, seemingly not displeased. From what I knew, he was always cheerful and didn’t hold grudges. Even when he had a big fight with someone, it never lasted more than an hour.
He might have played some mischievous pranks, but it was all in good humor.
As we continued the conversation for a few more minutes, the awkwardness gradually dissipated. Then, in the distance, Dylan’s figure, who had disappeared, came into view again.
