Chapter 31
I was forced to promise due to Jed and Dylan’s constant persuasion.
Suddenly, Lily reached out her hand and grabbed both of mine.
“I don’t know where you’re going, but when you have a place to stay, please give me a letter. It might not be of much help though I want to send you a gift to celebrate your fresh start.”
“Oh… You don’t have to do that.”
“Did you forget that we promised to be friends?”
“No! It’s not like that.”
Lily’s eyes widened into a round shape.
“Please, give it to me. Through Jed is fine, too.”
She still held both of my hands as I eventually nodded my head. It felt like she would never let go if I didn’t answer.
“Yes, I will do that. I’ll go now. I think His Highness is eagerly waiting, so please go see him… Oh, he’s already here.”
As if on cue, Jed appeared in my field of vision. It seemed like he couldn’t resist and came to find the female lead. As Lily slowly turned her head at my words, her expression was like a scene from a movie.
Indeed, she was the female lead.
“Jed!”
When Lily gracefully ran to him, Jed looked at her with an affectionate gaze and wrapped his arms around her.
Ah, how picturesque.
“Are you really leaving now, Dame Love?”
“Yes, Your Highness. I’m truly grateful for everything.”
I slowly moved away, dragging my bag, afraid to hold them back.
“Don’t forget that you promised to visit us every few months. So, there’s no need to say goodbye as if we’ll never see each other again. For Lily’s sake, at least.”
“Ahaha…”
Haha, this d*mn brat. Acting all cool in front of the female lead, even in this situation. I guess I should leave this place quickly.
“I will truly go now. Your Highness, please always be happy! Please love Lily for a long, long time.”
At that moment, Lily’s peach-coloured cheeks blushed as she exclaimed, “Oh my!” And only after making the promise to her twice, was I finally able to escape from them.
I was finally free.
And yet, here I am, once again, in this wretched palace… but at least I was able to leave this place before worse things happened and live a happy life.
“How is it, miss this place?”
Dylan smirked behind me as I looked around the training grounds and the palace. I quickly turned my head.
“No, not at all. I just thought that nothing had changed.”
“You’re so mean.”
Then, he suddenly grabbed my shoulders with a serious expression.
“Hey, Hazel.”
“What’s wrong?”
“The illusionist is training inside.”
“You told me before, and you just mentioned it earlier.”
I retorted in a sarcastic tone.
“Don’t get too shocked when you see them. Don’t run away, got it? It’s a request.”
I wondered what kind of person could stress him out so much. Now, even I was curious. Lightly tapped Dylan’s slumped shoulders, I started walking towards the inside of the training grounds.
It has been three days since Hazel arrived in the capital.
“Sniff, sniff, what, what did I do wrong?”
A man with swollen eyes, bleeding from a wounded body, cowered in a corner of the warehouse, trembling in fear. It was Carrion, who had caused a commotion at the guild representatives’ meeting, claiming that a venomous scorpion was attacking his body.
“So, it’s you.”
A deep, beast-like voice murmured.
Sid nodded beside him.
“Yes, according to Nigella’s account, he had the audacity to touch the guild master’s shoulder during the meeting. He kept bothering her, saying let’s go somewhere else and complimenting her, calling her a pretty lady, and so on.”
“Ah, I see.”
Even though he responded without much enthusiasm, Sid knew very well that this tone of voice came out when Kairos was not in a good mood.
With a steady thud of his shoes, Kairos approached the cowering Carrion.
“Ack!”
Carrion let out a scream.
“With this hand?”
Sid made a puzzled expression at those words.
“Actually, it’s not the left hand, but the right…”
“Aaah!”
While giving a sincere response, Sid had a pitiful look in his eyes.
Tsk, why did scream?
Sid shook his head and turned his gaze away.
In the meanwhile, Carrion, who was gasping in pain, couldn’t even understand why he ended up like this.
After the strange incident at the guild representatives’ meeting, he felt like he had gone crazy. He had merely approached a woman he found attractive during the long-awaited guild representatives’ meeting.
But suddenly, thousands of black venomous scorpions appeared before his eyes. They even followed him to the carriage, forcing him to flee to the temple instead of his home. The priest who hurriedly came out said he was experiencing hallucinations and used their holy power to dispel them, finally freeing him from the illusion.
Who on earth did this?
Because of them, he had to go to the temple in the middle of the night and reluctantly make a huge donation.
Although he returned home with an unpleasant feeling, when he opened his eyes, he found himself trapped in a cold and strange, giant warehouse.
His entire body was bruised, and there was no place that was left unscathed. It was only later that he realized he hadn’t fallen asleep and returned home but fainted in the carriage. However, he still couldn’t figure out where he was.
Then, a handsome man appeared belatedly and directed killing intent towards him.
‘…What on earth is happening?’
He was in the midst of a nightmare without understanding a single thing.
Kairos bent his knees and lowered his gaze before his gloved hand grasped his face fiercely. Seeing Carrion trembling, he clicked his tongue.
“To think this is what you call a face.”
Daring to displease his wife.
That thought rapidly intensified Kairos’ already displeased mood. The thought of Hazel, who was touched by his wretched hand, twisted his stomach inexplicably.
“Hmph…”
The forceful impact jolted Carrion back from his thoughts, he was on the verge of losing consciousness. He gasped in pain as if he could collapse at any moment as Kairos dropped his grip on his chin.
Meanwhile, Sid observed his master’s back with a strange look in his eyes.
“Bring him here.”
Nigella had reported to Kairos, and they had indeed sent someone to apprehend Carrion, but Sid had never expected for him to take care of it. Even though there had been many annoying flies before, Sid and Nigella had always taken care of them and only reported to Kairos.
Judging by the current demeanor of his master, it seemed that the man named Carrion was unlikely to survive.
Carrion Molli, the eldest son of Count Molli, was currently embroiled in a succession dispute with his younger brother, Ralph. The Count seemed to be suffering from a great headache because of his eldest son, Carrion, and his younger son, Ralph.
According to the reports, it seemed that no one was willing to give up their ambitions, and they were fighting over the family and its assets. If things continued like this, the eldest son might disappear without a trace, and the family and its assets would all become the younger son’s share.
Carrion was contemplating whether to make a deal with Ralph Molli, his younger brother. He seemed capable of handling troublesome matters, so it would be wise to prostrate himself and seek his favor, if he had any sense left.
…By the way, when would the captive return home? It had been a while since Sid had felt such a pressing need for her to do so.
If it weren’t for the captive’s call yesterday morning, he would have been overwhelmed and buried under even more work like a dried-up squid. Fortunately, not only did the report end right there, but his master also didn’t bring up anything about it.
While he hadn’t fully adapted to the sudden change in his master’s voice, which had become chillingly eerie, he found himself hoping for the call every time he submitted a report in the future.
Above all, he wished for the captive to return quickly.
On the other hand, it felt a bit strange.
When the captive was by his side, if things were a little off, he just brushed it off. Though now that she was gone, he could clearly feel that his master had indeed changed.
It was as if he was partly absent-minded and excessively irritable, as though he had only one thing on his mind.
It was as if… he was eagerly waiting for the captive to return…
“Sid.”
“Yes!”
Sid snapped back to attention.
