Chapter 115
Celine’s eyes widened.
‘The beginning of the dragons?’
It was the first time she had heard of such a thing.
Celine prided herself on having scoured almost every relevant book in the library of Bernoulli Castle.
But nowhere in them was there any mention of the Dragon of the Beginning.
The Crown Prince, too, looked at Leonhardt as if taken aback.
“The Dragon of the Beginning… Do you understand what you’re talking about?”
“Yes.”
Leonhardt nodded politely.
“And do you know precisely what those words mean?”
“I do.”
Celine observed the Crown Prince anxiously.
‘I shouldn’t let that narrow-minded person get angry again.’
She bit her lip.
The time had passed when she used to watch Leonhardt’s actions without any thought.
Each of Leonhardt’s actions could send her heart soaring to the heavens and then plummeting to the ground in an instant.
She might not know anything about the Dragon of the Beginning, but she could sense that Leonhardt was playing a dangerous game.
Fortunately, the Crown Prince didn’t show signs of anger.
“Until I hear the reason, I cannot grant permission.”
Leonhardt turned his head and looked at the door they had entered.
“Your Highness, if you are willing, would you step outside for a moment?”
“….?”
The Crown Prince looked bewildered but readily walked outside.
A moment later, laughter filled the entire throne room.
“So it was because of this!”
“Yes.”
Leonhardt replied as he approached the door.
Celine followed behind him.
Lou fluttered its wings and dashed towards her, seemingly delighted.
“I had heard about it, but…. I didn’t realize it was this big. The attendants didn’t stop you?”
“Are you asking me?”
Leonhardt’s light joke once again made the Crown Prince start laughing.
“Well, if such a great attendant existed, they wouldn’t be of this world. But why does this dragon need Pangea? Can’t it just stay by the Lady’s side as it have been doing?”
Leonhardt lowered his head.
“I can’t burden Celine any further. It’s already quite uncomfortable for her.”
“Leonhardt, Lou understands….’
“….”
Although Leonhardt remained silent, Lou seemed to feel uneasy and snuggled even closer to Celine.
The Crown Prince had an amused face.
“That would indeed be quite troublesome.”
“And there’s no guarantee that another warlock won’t have their sights set on this dragon.”
“….”
Celine tried to soothe her restless heart as she gently petted Lou.
Although she hadn’t heard an explanation from Leonhardt, she could well guess what he was attempting now.
‘He’s trying to entrust Lou to the Dragon of the Beginning.’
She herself had never thought she could spend her whole life with Lou.
‘I thought I could let it go when the time was right.’
But Leonhardt saw through the fact that there was no such thing as the right time.
Lou was an immature dragon.
It would take hundreds of years in human care to mature fully.
What would happen after Celine grew old and passed away?
Who could possibly handle a dragon that grew in such size without any ulterior motives?
Until the young dragons matured, they were essentially just magical stones. There must be a reason why.
‘Leonhardt is right. There’s no guarantee that only Cordelia coveted Lou.’
Celine quickly blinked her widened eyes to hide her surprise.
No warlock should ever be able to lay a hand on Lou again.
The Crown Prince slowly spoke up.
“It can’t be helped. You must know exactly what you requested, right?”
“Yes.”
“Leonhardt, you’re gambling ten years of the empire’s safety right now.”
“I believe it’s worth the risk.”
Leonhardt looked directly at the Crown Prince.
“And I can further protect the empire for another ten years.”
“Ha!”
The Crown Prince burst out laughing.
It was a laughter that felt far from mocking, rather tinged with admiration.
“If you say it like that…. very well.”
He retrieved something from within his robes and handed it to Leonhardt.
“It would never happen, but remember if you lose it, you’ll lose your life.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
***
After Leonhardt had taken Celine to a secluded area, he showed her what he had received.
It was a small handheld mirror.
“What is this?”
“A map.”
Leonhardt answered simply.
“This is a map?”
“It’s a gift from Pangea to the first Unsorem. With this, we can know where Pangea is.”
“….!”
“The Crown Prince made a significant decision.”
Celine couldn’t find words to respond.
The Crown Prince was a cruel, shameless human garbage, but this time, he had given Leonhardt a great gift.
“How do you use it?”
Instead of answering, Leonhardt used the mirror to reflect Celine’s face.
Initially, only the pale woman with blonde hair appeared, but soon her face slowly transformed into the sleeping dragon.
Celine realized that the dragon was inside an ice cave.
As she peered closer, the scene in the mirror grew larger and larger.
The ice cave where the dragon slept shrank to the size of a coin, and the surrounding landscapes began to appear.
Celine recognized the unmistakable terrain.
“It’s in the north?”
Celine said with a surprised expression.
Leonhardt took the mirror and looked at it for a while.
“This is going to be a headache.”
“Why? I thought it would be much easier in the north.”
“This is the border. We’ll have to ride for three days from the Bernoulli Estate.”
“I’ve dealt with much more difficult tasks than that. What about using teleportation magic?”
“Can you move Lou too?”
“….”
Celine, at a loss for words, nodded.
Moving dozens of people was not a difficult task, but Lou was a being full of magic.
She couldn’t predict what variables might arise.
Leonhardt carefully put the mirror back into his pocket.
“We should depart soon.”
***
A few days later.
Leonhardt, Celine, and Lou arrived precisely at the ice cave that appeared in the mirror.
Celine anxiously watched Leonhardt enter the cave first with a serious expression.
‘There’s clearly an issue that’s difficult for him to talk to me about.’
Leonhardt had seemed in a good mood until he received the map, but as they approached the north, he became increasingly melancholic.
Despite Celine’s attempts to pry out the reason, he only offered evasive answers, suggesting it wasn’t a big deal.
‘If it’s not a big problem, that would be good.’
In truth, if it were just something Leonhardt found difficult to talk about, there wouldn’t be an immediate need to know.
However, if it were a significant issue, she wanted to relieve his burden as soon as possible.
‘If Leonhardt doesn’t want to talk, I can’t force him….’
Celine let out a sigh.
Lou seemed to have sensed her sinking mood and approached, pressing his body against hers.
‘We came here to say goodbye, you fool.’
Celine lightly patted Lou’s back before stepping into the cave.
The ice cave was so cold and massive that it was hard to believe that vibrant spring flowers were blooming outside.
In terms of height, it could rival many buildings.
While actual ice hadn’t fully formed, the frost clinging in various places indicated that they had arrived at the location from the mirror.
Lou began shivering, seemingly not accustomed to the temperature.
‘You endured the winter, so why this now?’
Celine used her magic to surround Lou’s entire body with warmth.
Bang!
Celine jumped up from the ground.
Immediately after using the warmth spell on Lou, a loud rumble echoed, and the entire cave began to shake.
Leonhardt, who had been scouting a few paces ahead, ran towards her.
“Celine!”
He immediately transformed Rashir into a shield to protect her.
Celine hid beneath the shield, but the shaking of the cave only grew stronger.
“Pangea!”
Leonhardt shouted loudly, the sound almost resembling a beast’s roar.
At that moment, the vibration stopped.
However, Celine’s startled heart didn’t calm down, but rather throbbed even more intensely.
The cave’s shaking was overshadowed by the heavy footsteps approaching from a considerable distance away, toward their location.
– Thud.
– Thud.
– Thud.
A massive silvery dragon emerged from the other side of the cave.
Celine took a breath.
Though Leonhardt didn’t say a word, Celine understood.
This dragon was older than anything else in this empire.
‘It’s the dragon of the beginning.’
Celine, driven by an inexplicable impulse, spoke up.
“Pangea.”
The giant dragon’s mouth opened slightly, and a thunderous voice echoed through the ice cave.
“Why have you disturbed my slumber and ensnared my child with mere human magic?”
The voice was unlike any human voice, exuding a threatening and overwhelming power.
“….!”
Celine’s body stiffened.
Pangea referred to Lou as its child.
While she didn’t know much about the relationships among dragons, they wouldn’t typically refer to an unfamiliar dragon as their child.
Celine’s mind raced.
“So you’re Lou… this child’s mother.”
“Yes.”
Pangea’s voice blazed with anger.
“Remove your crude magic at once.”
Celine hastily withdrew the warmth spell.
Lou, seeming frightened, enveloped Celine completely, but Celine quickly slipped out of Lou’s embrace.
Pangea spoke in a noticeably softened tone.
“Seems like you’ve come all this way because of my child.”
“That’s right.”
“Since Cordelia’s incident, not a single Unsorem has dared to lay a hand on a dragon.”
“I am not an Unsorem.”
“Do you think I wouldn’t know that?”
Pangea spoke with clear disdain.
“Unsorem doesn’t meddle with dragons. Whether my child lives or dies… they seem uninterested.”
Celine realized that Pangea was demanding an explanation from her.
She slowly explained how she had met Lou, how Lou had left her, and how they had come to the present moment.
Having heard her explanations, Pangea looked at Lou with sad eyes.
“So this is why giving birth to a child is no easy feat. But everyone makes mistakes… even I.”
“Can you take care of Lou?”
“I have no choice but to do so.”
Pangea’s words sounded cold, but Celine could sense the responsibility within them.
“I am truly grateful for bringing the child back, Hunt and Bernoulli.”
“It was for me.”
Celine replied sincerely.
“And for Lou, I suppose.”
Celine was slightly surprised and left her mouth agape.
“Was this child’s name, Lou?”
“I named it that.”
Pangea let out a strange chuckle.
“Lou wouldn’t want any other name, I suppose.”
