Chapter 4
Just as Ricardor was trying to touch Riersha, he saw the demon trapped inside the floating soap bubble and hesitated.
Powerful magical energy was pulsing around.
It was an unfamiliar yet somewhat familiar sensation.
“You…”
He was so surprised, unable to find the words.
Still, he glanced at the frightened Riersha the next moment before promptly burning the monster. It was Ricardor’s ability — the fierce black flames didn’t die down as if showing their personality for a while.
“Darn, I missed such a big one.”
Ricardor muttered frustratedly.
“Bro, Brother… how you here?”
Riersha asked in a bewildered tone, to which he tilted his head. His piercing gaze scanned her as he spoke sharply.
“That’s my question. Why are you here? You want to die?”
“….”
“Don’t you know this place—!”
“Huwaaaahh, Brotherrrr!”
However, before he could finish, she suddenly ran into his arms. Although he flinched, he remained motionless as she buried her face in his chest. He froze with both hands raised helplessly in the air at the unexpected situation.
“Hey, you… filthy.”
Ricardor was unable to push Riersha away in the end. This was because her relief that he was alive was being conveyed to Ricardor. Her trembling hands clutching his waist made him sigh.
“….Thank ywou saving me again.”
She mumbled after a while.
Ricardor looked puzzled, not understanding her words.
“Again…?”
“Ung.”
Riersha weakly nodded.
‘Yes… Brother Ricardor came to save me again.”
As she felt her heart swell, a vain hope that this time she could live happily with her family was sprouting in her mind.
‘I shouldn’t have such expectations.’
Nonetheless, she recalled her past self experiencing hope and disappointment over and over again. As she wiped her face, she noticed Ricardor’s top was stained with the shape of her eyes, nose, and mouth.
Ricardor’s expression changed when he saw that.
“Hey you, my clothes…”
“Hicc… it’s too scawwy!”
“….”
“Thank you saving me.”
Even thinking back on what just happened made her feel sad.
‘Though what did he say by missed it earlier…?’
Riersha tilted her head at the thought.
Could it be that he saw that monster earlier? So Ricardor often came into this forest? Even though she wanted to ask the question, before she could ask, she felt her strength draining as the last soap bubble burst.
Ricardor looked at her with a puzzled expression.
“…Oh?”
Suddenly, as her body started to sway and lose balance, she could see Ricardo hurriedly reaching out his hand to grab her.
“Are you okay?!”
In the rush, it wasn’t Ricardor but someone else who caught her.
Riersha lifted her head, feeling the broad embrace from behind.
‘…Who is it?’
A man with a monocle and a long gold band was looking down at her. As her consciousness faded, she heard the man’s voice echo in her diminishing awareness.
“Congratulations on your awakening, Miss Riersha. I will take care of you from now on.”
Her heavy eyelids drooped shut, and she lost consciousness.
“Since when were you watching over her?”
Ricardor sharply interrogated the man after Riersha collapsed due to the awakening. The man was Rocinante, Young Duke Arachrene’s aide.
Rocinante carefully held Riersha in his arms.
“Isn’t it time for class, Young Master Ricardor? It seems you have taken the wrong path. This place is the exact opposite of where the succession classes are held.”
“Don’t play innocent. You knew from the beginning that this child would enter the forest, didn’t you?”
“I didn’t know.”
As Rocinante answered firmly with a smile, Ricardor’s eyes narrowed in disbelief. Then, he took out a bracelet from his pocket.
“This bracelet.”
“Oh. Young Master, is that what you like?”
“It was forcibly torn. You didn’t do it, right? I was told that Riersha had gone into the forest.”
“…Well, I don’t know anything about that.”
Rocinante’s sharp gaze behind his glasses gently curved to assert his innocence. However, a warning glint appeared, hinting at not pressing the matter further.
While Ricardor frowned at this, Rocinante’s lips curved gently upward.
“After all, I am the Young Duke’s aide. You must know that I cannot interfere in the internal affairs of the family.”
“That’s why you used me.”
“I feel accused.”
Saying so, Rocinante joked and shook his head.
From that moment, his situation changed. The constraint of not being able to interfere in internal family matters had been lifted.
“Then please be careful on your way back, Young Master Ricardor. I should be going now.”
He had a lot to take care of from now on. It seemed like he would have to first deal with the pests living in Riersha’s castle.
After that…
He would have the opportunity to set things right.
As Rocinante looked at the sleeping Riersha, he smiled brightly.
Blink.
Riersha came to her senses and opened her eyes. As she glanced around, trying to discern the place, she felt a presence beside her.
“Are you awake, Miss Riersha?”
“Who…?”
Beside her, a woman she had never seen before greeted her politely.
Riersha hesitated reflexively and shifted her body back with a wary face. It was because the people of the estate were not typically kind to her.
In the meanwhile, the woman introduced herself despite her wary reaction.
“I will introduce myself formally. I am your exclusive knight, Sona, who will serve Miss Riersha from today.”
“…My nwight?”
Riersha responded, somewhat surprised at the woman’s introduction. Exclusive knights were assigned to heirs who had awakened to ensure their safety and were strictly dedicated to the protection of the heir. It was something that Riersha had never been allowed.
‘… That’s right, I awakened my abilities.’
The ability that she had not noticed for over ten years suddenly resurfaced as she returned to her younger self.
Riersha awkwardly clenched and opened her hand. Her body still felt completely empty, indicating that the aftereffects of her awakening had not completely faded.
‘No wounds…?’
She was surprised to see the wound on her elbow was gone. Surely, someone with the ability to heal wounds must have been here.
‘It would not have happened without Grandfather’s orders.’
In addition, seeing that her clothes had also changed from the ones she wore in the forest, she realized that Sona must have changed and washed her. Come to think of it, she must have likely followed the Duke’s orders.
Still finding it hard to believe, Riersha asked again.
“..Really my nwight?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
She looked awkward at Sona’s gentle voice and kind demeanor.
As she cautiously examined Sona, who had her silver hair tied back in a single braid that reached her waist, from her appearance, it suggested that she might be from a collateral family from Duchy Arachrene. It was difficult to believe that her grandfather had assigned such a high-ranking knight to her.
“Ddona…?”
When Riersha awkwardly tried to call her by her name, Sona’s eyes widened significantly. Her mouth and eyes were slightly agape, and the corners of her lips trembled though the change was brief.
She returned to her usual smiling face before she responded.
“Yes, Miss Riersha.”
“Ddona…”
While Riersha called out her name a few more times, Sona, who was pouring water into a cup, spoke decisively as if making up her mind.
“Yes, please call me Ddona.”
“Ung?”
“From now on, my name is Ddona.”
With a more serious expression than ever, Sona handed her the cup.
