Chapter 4
Royal Invitation Letter
“This crazy idiot… I can’t believe I got caught up in something so ridiculous.”
As Leonard groaned, clutching his head, Noah threw the window wide open.
Immediately, the King shouted.
“Close it!!”
Everyone was holding back from the smoke, but Noah was unstoppable.
“I think I need some ventilation, Your Majesty.”
Asher nodded and opened another door himself.
“Calm down.”
The King’s spirit weakened slightly at the urging of his grown sons.
Asher opened his mouth.
“First, let’s make an official statement. It cannot be resolved by remaining silent. Please punish Duke Lightwing appropriately and tell him directly that the royal family does not agree with him.”
“….”
Noah was filled with a sneer as he looked at his father’s face. It wasn’t that he didn’t know that, but he just didn’t want to do it.
Noah opened his mouth again, crossing his arms and leaning at an angle against his window frame.
“I went to seven events yesterday, but there was no picture of me anywhere in the newspaper. It doesn’t seem like that will be enough, so I think it would be better to do as the Crown Prince says.”
The King’s secretaries also nodded repeatedly and looked at Leonard.
Leonard flopped down on the sofa like a defeated soldier and put the cigarette in his mouth again. After he had finished burning his cigarette, he poured water into his mouth and muttered.
“Then, how do you rebuild the shattered image of the royal family? We are planning to raise taxes early next year, but this b*stard Walter has created an image like this, will it even pass?!”
Then, he looked at Noah blatantly.
What was he saying? Now, was he asking him to take off his clothes?
Noah felt annoyed by his gaze and suddenly remembered a photo the size of his palm. He lowered his gaze and was lost in thought for a moment before he approached the secretary, who picked up the newspaper the King had thrown away and held out his hand.
“Please give me the newspaper.”
As he took the newspaper handed to him by the secretary, he opened it to the page with Olivia Liberty on it and saw a woman with a neat appearance smiling at him. Noah looked at Olivia in the photo for a moment and put the newspaper down in front of Leonard.
He calmly presented his opinion as Leonard looked at the newspaper in confusion.
“I think it’s time to congratulate the youngest and best female university student from Herodington’s commoners.”
The King seemed to think about Noah’s suggestion for a moment but then nodded his head.
“Yes, that’s a good idea.”
Then, he got up and quickly went to his desk.
“Hurry and bring the letterhead and envelope! You said there was a ship going to Pulder today, right? Call them right now and take my letter as well!”
Two weeks later, Olivia was walking down a quiet hallway and reading a letter with mixed eyes.
It had already been several months since she had been going to job interviews for Ansen before he offered her a full-time position. She repeatedly failed job interviews.
Still, she didn’t succeed this time. Her earnest hope was shattered as white as sea foam.
Olivia dropped her hand with a defeated look. She had high expectations this time because she submitted a letter of recommendation from Professor Marguerite.
“…It didn’t work out again.”
It felt like her heart was shrinking from the successive failures.
Her grandmother was probably curious about the results, so how could she tell her? Olivia folded the letter with heavy hands and placed it in her bag at the thought. In the meanwhile, she had arrived in front of the grand black door.
Marguerite Astrid.
The younger sister of Leonard II, the current monarch of Herod, she served as president and professor emeritus of Herodington College in the Republic of Pulder, not Herod.
Marguerite, or Margot for short, who seemed to be the word cynicism personified, looked through Herod’s main newspaper with a stern gaze and clicked her tongue at the atrocities of her own brother, Duke Lightwing.
“This idiot continues to do things like this even as he gets older.”
At that time, a steady knocking sound came.
“Come in.”
While she was taking off her glasses, the door opened, revealing the person who had been waiting.
“Welcome, Olivia. Sit down.”
“Hello, professor.”
Margot came around the desk and sat down at the top of the reception sofa. As she looked at Olivia, who carefully sat down in the seat near her, she suddenly furrowed her brows.
“What’s wrong?”
Olivia quickly smiled and shook her head in response to her sharp question.
“Nothing’s wrong.”
“….”
Margot quietly studied her face with her cool, cold blue eyes and then crossed her arms in disapproval. Olivia must have failed to get a job again.
They seemed like stupid companies with no vision.
“If you’re in the company of idiots who have eyes but don’t know how to see, it’s better not to go. Don’t worry too much.”
Olivia smiled slightly at Margot’s poignant consolation and played with her skirt.
“I’m sorry you even wrote me a letter of recommendation.”
“At times like this, you don’t say you’re sorry. Disgraceful things. I wrote a letter of recommendation, and they rejected it? Just wait and see.”
Margot uncrossed her arms and handed Olivia the heavy, luxurious envelope that was on the table.
It was because of this envelope that she called Olivia today.
Olivia, who took the envelope with both hands, tilted her head at the gorgeous Herodian royal emblem engraved on sealing wax.
“Why are you giving this to me?”
“Because it came to you. Open it.”
Olivia’s name was written in nice cursive, like a picture at the top of the stiff card inside the envelope. As her eyes widened, she quickly scanned the card while Margot calmly explained the situation.
“Duke Lightwing’s atrocities put Herod’s royal family in trouble. It seems that King Herod wants to change the difficult situation by putting you at the forefront. He may have written a plausible reason for the invitation, but the reality is that.”
Olivia was still looking down at the card.
She was dazed by the invitation, which she had never thought of, but her heart fluttered as if she had touched something.
Herod was Olivia’s distant memory and the home of her nostalgic memory and precious things. When her body was rocked here and there by the harsh winds, she would always think of Herod, who was cozy and comfortable.
It was the same today.
When her grandmother told her to go on an outing, Olivia inevitably thought of Herod.
“Why? Do you want to go?”
Olivia raised her head in response to Margot’s question. Even so, now that she was an adult, she was thinking of telling her grandmother that she wanted to go to Herod again at least once. Of course, her grandmother wouldn’t like it.
Then, she heard that it was an invitation from Herod’s royal family.
But…
Olivia barely opened her mouth, feeling flustered.
“But Professor, I don’t have the financial means to travel to Herod right now. Moreover, if that happens, my grandmother will have to be alone…”
At those words, Margo snorted in laughter.
“Olivia, what you are holding now is an invitation from the royal family. Besides, your grandmother was your guardian until last year. You were the one who needed to be protected.”
“Still.”
Margo, who was not very pleased with Susanna Liberty, who weighed heavily on the young girl’s depressed shoulder, clicked her tongue briefly and added her words.
“If you want to go, I can send someone to Mrs. Liberty. I’ll check on her every morning and evening to see if she’s okay. So stop worrying about that.”
Despite the fact that her heart fluttered even more at those words, that was not the end of her worries as a poor citizen.
“Will I be in trouble if I go to Herod after receiving this invitation? It’s an invitation from the royal family.”
“It might be a bit annoying.”
“Do you mean there won’t be no trouble, Professor?”
“Don’t we have to catch and eat it?”
After spitting it out, Margo suddenly narrowed her eyes. Then, she hurriedly snatched Olivia’s invitation and read it.
“Autumn banquet?”
She thought they would just invite Olivia and take some pictures, but the event she was invited to was the autumn banquet, Herod’s social debut stage?!
Selfish Leonard made a great deal out of it.
