Chapter 85
“What’s the matter, are you embarrassed right now?”
“Me? Embarrassed? There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”
“Miss Lily always blushes when she hears such comments. Aren’t you similar in that way?”
“You firmly said ‘You are not Miss Lily’. Yet now, you easily make such a comparison?”
“I realized that in some ways, you, Lilith, are doing things Miss Lily cannot. After all, Miss Lily herself admitted you are ‘another me.’ It’s not my place to interfere.”
Well it’s surprising. I remained silent, unsure how to respond. The feeling of ’embarrassment’ they mentioned felt different from the ‘embarrassment’ I usually experienced. It was more intense and made my heart race as I tilted my head.
Kyren chuckled softly at my puzzled look.
“Lily is really adorable. Ah, I mean it in the literal sense. You don’t need to respond to that.”
“Oh, is that so? What a pity. I was actually not in pain thanks to the drug, but today I was a bit unprepared.”
“…Drug, you say?”
Kyren, who was taken aback, stiffened his face at my mischievous comment. It seems my indirect warning that there wouldn’t be a second time was well conveyed. He gulped nervously, looking pale, and I asked again.
“So, what was the drug you put in the tea?”
“Oh, it was holy water.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the atmosphere sharply changed again. Holy water, what did he mean that he put something like holy water in it? I was speechless at his innocent blinking, finding the situation unbelievable.
“Holy water? Kyren, is that true?”
“Yes, Odil. It was a gift from the Holy Kingdom, meant as a gesture of friendship. It’s colorless, odorless, tasteless, and is said to heal wounds and relieve fatigue. Rubich insisted on its importance, so I couldn’t discard it, but I didn’t want to use it either. Fortunately, an opportunity came to use it.”
“Your Majesty, she’s a devilkin.”
Even though I’m half human, it’s still on the opposite side of divine power. How could I swallow holy water and be fine? I was amazed I didn’t die.
At Damien’s words, Kyren widened his eyes.
“Yes, I know.”
“You knew and still used holy water?”
“But holy water can purify what’s unclean, right, Damien?”
“Uh? Well, yes, that’s true.”
“And Lily was originally human before she became a succubus, right, Lily?”
“Yes.”
The conversation seemed off. I nodded with a bittersweet expression, and I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Everyone’s expressions were odd, especially Odil, who looked truly dismayed.
“So I thought maybe if Lily drinks the holy water, there would be some benefits. I only dropped two drops in her tea, but when she looked at me crying, I realized something was wrong…”
“You laughed, didn’t you?”
“But I couldn’t cry, could I? How petty would that have been? I had no bad intentions, really. Maybe I should reflect on it, seeing how Lily always laughs it off.”
So, the idea that he was only trying to upset me at first and then offered tea out of pure kindness seemed absurd. He appeared genuinely unaware, which made it hard to believe he was lying. But how would the rational Lily react to this?
“Maybe you should try kneeling and begging later. She won’t remember it anyway.”
Of course, I didn’t really think he would do such a thing. Maybe I should have given him a taste of his own medicine with my tentacles. As I contemplated giving it another try, the conversation continued.
“Does that really work?”
“What?”
“Does kneeling and begging really cool down your anger? Lily, you’re really kind.”
Kyren looked surprised, his eyes shining as if he found me exceptionally forgiving. Stunned, I reflexively looked at Odil for an answer.
“Is he always like this?”
“…I’m sorry.”
I felt uncomfortable. It seemed that despite pathetically begging, it had made him even more fond of me, unfortunately.
“When Lily laughed earlier, it reminded me of someone dear to me. My heart fluttered with longing. But then something strange entered my clothes and made my heart race for another reason. Oh, and Lily, would you meet with Rubich later? He’d be really surprised.”
I nodded nonchalantly. Kyren continued with a small smile.
“Odil, don’t worry about the table. I’ll prepare a new one.”
“Alright…”
“Ah, I should set the time with Rubich, rather than this. I actually escaped from paperwork today, so he must be really angry by now. See you again, Lily.”
It felt like a storm had just passed. As the door closed behind Chade, we all exhaled deeply.
I spoke without hesitation.
“You guys really follow someone like him?”
“You know, His Majesty is incredibly lenient towards people he likes. I didn’t expect you to go to the extent of using tentacles, though. He’s usually not this easy to deal with.”
“He doesn’t seem that way to me.”
“Didn’t I tell you, Lily? He’s taken a liking to you.”
I frowned. From the start, I don’t understand why he acted so oddly. Endymion approached and brushed my hair away as he spoke.
“Is it certain that Miss Lily won’t remember what happened when she wakes up?”
“Most likely. It’s been like that so far. But I was angry when I found out you guys were hiding the ring.”
“That bad?”
“It hurt a lot. Want me to try putting a fist in your behind later? It might feel similar.”
“No, that’s okay.”
“Lilith, I have a request.”
I pouted in disappointment, but blinked in surprise when Endymion mentioned a request. I said to him, holding his hand that was touching my cheek
“Did you eat something wrong today? Why are you being so overly kind?”
“I’ve always been kind towards Miss Lily.”
“There’s no comeback to that. Well, what’s your request?”
“I would like you to stay in the room in the library until Miss Lily wakes up.”
It was an unexpected request. As I stood there stunned, Odil added too.
“I ask the same. You said she won’t remember, but if Lily gets too shocked…”
“Ah. Are you worried that if that happens, she might get scared and flee the castle?”
“Exactly.”
I had meant it as a half-joke, but Odil’s serious response left me feeling a bit awkward. I had told them to be honest, but no matter how much I thought about it, adapting to this was still difficult.
Still, it felt better than before. While when they hide their true feelings, it was vexing. So their honesty was refreshing.
Since the request wasn’t difficult for me, I readily nodded.
