Chapter 101
‘He was waiting for me…?’
Although Celine tried to hide her nervousness, it seemed to be in vain.
“Don’t be so vigilant, Lute Celine.”
The words that seemed to see through her pierced her from Lute Carl’s mouth.
“Have I ever caused you trouble?”
Celine tried to calm down.
In fact, Lute Carl was right. He taught magic to her with all his heart and soul and saved her from danger several times until now. How many chances would there have been if Lute Carl had been trying to harm her?
“…None.”
“See.”
Lute Carl smiled faintly.
“Aren’t you being cold? Looks like you’re in a situation where you can’t use magic properly. Should I light a bonfire?”
“I can use it. I’m okay.”
Celine immediately encircled her own body with magic that brought warmth.
“That’s a relief.”
Lute Carl looked genuinely relieved.
‘…Yes, let’s not have unnecessary doubts.’
While she hesitated, Leonhard poured out questions swiftly.
“How did you know Celine was here?”
“When I looked… you’re here.”
“Where is this place?”
“It’s not far from the Imperial Place.”
Leonhard’s forehead furrowed.
“There’s no way I didn’t know about a place like this.”
“It was covered by a barrier. Unless you’re consciously trying to find out about it, you probably won’t know.”
Then, Lute Carl gazed straight at Celine even while he was answering all these questions.
“I was very worried… I’m glad you made it this far safely.”
Her eyes widened at the sudden realization.
He had only been talking about her so far. Lute Carl didn’t worry about Leonhard at all, such as how fortunate it was to escape safely or what his condition was even though the lord he should serve was Leonhard Bernoulli.
‘…Why?’
There was only one answer from Celine’s head.
‘Because Lute Carl is also part of the true ending…?’
If her guess was correct, it was no wonder that now Lute Carl was not listening to Leonhard’s answer and caring only about her.
Celine gradually regained her footing.
In the game, Lute Carl was a character who helped the player clear the stages. In addition, meeting him was the turning point to the true ending route, so it wouldn’t be strange if he appeared in the true ending.
“Was there a reason I came here?”
“Of course. Don’t you already know?”
“Lute Carl.”
Leonhard called to him in a low voice.
“Are you the one who guided me down there?”
“How could that be!”
Lute Carl waved his hand.
“If I had that kind of power, I had already…”
Leonhard cut him off.
“You know where we have been. Very clearly, too.”
“…Yes.”
“You know very well what happened.”
“That’s right.”
Before Celine had time to stop him, Leonhard jumped out in front of her and thrust Rashir around his neck. On the other hand, although he must have felt a threat to his life, Lute Carl did not even move.
“Tell me. What are you?”
“…Lord Leonhard.”
Lute Carl’s voice even sounded sad.
“Don’t you know me well?”
Still, Leonhard did not pull back Rashir.
“Stop thinking about going that way.”
“Leonhardt.”
Celine carefully restrained Leonhard.
“I think I know roughly. What Lute Carl is trying to say and why he is here right now.”
“….”
Leonhard looked at Celine intently.
Despite the fact that he didn’t say a single word, she could feel his trust in her. He soon slowly lowered Rashir and returned to her side. In the meanwhile, even though Leonhard kept his distance close enough to keep the blade from touching his skin, Lute Carl staggered, clutching his neck.
“Now tell me. Why were you waiting for me?”
Lute Carl stared blankly up at the sky.
“It will be a long story.”
“Is it something you can’t say after we get out of here?”
Leonhard’s voice sounded rather nervous.
“No.”
Lute Carl looked straight at Leonhardt.
“This is something that can only be told here.”
—Whoop.
At the end of his words, there was a burst.
Celine screamed, but no sound came out of her mouth as darkness overtook them all.
Celine opened her eyes in the dark.
‘….!’
When she couldn’t see or feel anything, she hurriedly threw her arms in all directions before someone gently pulled her.
She knew who it was before he even opened his mouth.
It was Leonhard.
“Restrain from moving. Stay still.”
“Here… what is this?”
“It’s a barrier.”
Celine caught her breath. If there was anyone who could create a barrier here, there was only one person, Lute Carl.
‘Why?’
She was confused and tried to organize her tangled brain.
“Can’t you break it?”
“It… didn’t work out.”
“….!”
She widened her eyes.
‘…A barrier that Leonhard can’t break.’
So far, Leonhard has been destroying things made of magic more easily than destroying sand castles made by children.
“Lute Carl was so powerful…”
Celine paused.
‘…No.’
Lute Carl would not be more powerful than Leonhardt, who was nothing short of a legendary being.
‘Obviously, this is also the stage’s doing.’
Eventually, footsteps came in the darkness.
“You don’t use magic?”
Lute Carl’s voice was clearly directed at her.
“…Isn’t that I can’t use it?”
“Try it.”
Celine closed her eyes and focused her mind for a moment. The magic sucked from Lou wriggled deep inside her body as everywhere lit up with familiar blue lights.
‘…Space?’
Where they were was just an empty space. There was no sky or earth, only the three of them exist.
“Where is this?”
“I don’t know either.”
Lute Carl answered leisurely.
“What?”
Leonhard asked, dumbfoundedly.
“Isn’t this the barrier you created?”
“Lord Leonhard, it seems you are misunderstanding something.”
Lute Carl looked straight at him for the first time.
“I just came to the right place at the right time. All of this was predestined regardless of me.”
“…Were you a prophet, too?”
Celine’s eyes widened.
Clearly, to Leonhard, Lute Carl’s words only hinted that he was a prophet thuogh she was able to read the meaning behind it… Lute Carl was talking about an occurrence he could never go against.
However, he ignored Leonhard’s question and spoke to her.
“You know this, don’t you?”
Lute Carl pulled out a small crystal ball from his chest.
‘Why is Lute Carl…?’
As she gave a small nod, he handed her the crystal ball. The crystal ball crumbled as soon as it touched her hand and Celine carefully brushed off the shards of glass.
There was the familiar piece of parchment.
The blue-gray eyes fluttered.
The phrase was familiar.
‘This is in the torture chamber…’
The phrase she saw in the third stage, the torture chamber, was quietly placed in her hand.
‘This is a quest.’
Even though it would be better to ask Lute Carl than to ponder the meaning of this now, he was in no condition to answer every single question. It was because the moment she raised her head to ask a question, an exasperated voice erupted from his mouth.
“Why did you save Lord Leonhardt? It should never have been!”
For a moment, a heavy silence fell.
The silence ended with Leonhard growling in anger.
“As expected, you…!”
Lute Carl didn’t care and continued.
“Lute Celine, you had no choice but to kill Lord Leonhard! Everything should go as it was supposed to!”
Celine staggered in shock. Next to her, Leonhard shouted something though her ears rang so much that she couldn’t hear it properly.
‘…Nonsense!’
Her head seemed to be spinning, but as if frozen, she couldn’t think of anything. All the words that resonated in her heart were denial.
It didn’t make sense. It couldn’t be, it couldn’t be…
Lute Carl came towards her.
Leonhard blocked the way, but he couldn’t even stop Lute Carl’s voice.
“You know best, don’t you? You’re a prophet… like me!”
“I don’t know!”
As Celine closed her eyes tightly and shouted, her head spun as nausea came. Why would she want to kill Leonhard herself?
Leonhard…
A very fleeting thought caused her emotions to explode.
Leonhard had rescued her from the terrible house, and from her fate of constantly dying and going crazy. From his point of view, he risked his life to help the curse of a woman who he didn’t know. He promised to protect her for the rest of her life, even if the curse was not lifted and she could not use magic forever…
Still, apart from all of this, Celine couldn’t kill him.
Because it was… Leonhard.
“Celine!”
She barely came back to reality with Leonhard’s voice. A reality that felt so unreal… to a place where there was no floor, no ceiling, no boundaries, where only she, Leonhard, and Lute Carl existed.
“Are you calming down now?”
Lute Carl was not sarcastic or offensive. He was obviously worried about Celine, and that gave her goosebumps.
“You—!”
“Lord Leonhard. My opponent is not you, and your opponent is not me.”
The more Lute Carl spoke in clear words, the more her head grew colder.
Celine stopped him from giving a more detailed explanation.
It was because she was already putting the puzzles together in her head. In the first place, a hint from the game company mentioned that if they take a look at the true ending, they could find out the cause of Leonhard’s blackening.
…Stages and quests that seemed to induce magic training.
Above all, a stage that brainwashed Leonhard into attacking her and Rose. And so she drove him to the brink of death…
‘All of this was decided—’
Celine buried her face in her hands as she finally understood what Lute Carl was saying. At the same time, despair rose to her throat.
Ah.
Why didn’t she look at the true ending spoiler?
In a sense, Lute Carl was right. Certainly, Celine Hunt should have killed Leonhard Bernoulli in that underground maze. The heroine of the game, who has blossomed into a powerful wizard, killed the villain who did nothing but killing.
…That would be the true ending.
Lute Carl opened his mouth slowly.
“You seem to understand everything now.”
It was the sound of the wheel of fate turning.

beans
woah this is crazy but Leonhard hasn’t done any real villain activity so how can the game insist he is a villain. they should be trying to push leon toward the villain path if that’s what the game wants so bad. it doesn’t make sense for Celine to kill an innocent man
