Chapter 40
Chryselua got up to try to open the window but felt dizzy and fell back on the bed.
‘It’s a mission, but I’m not really going to die like this, right…’
She remembered Naskan saying she almost died at that time.
“Haa…”
She was exhausted sometimes. Even though she had lived this fiercely, sometimes, at times like this, she felt like giving up everything. For a moment, Chryselua buried her face in his hands and took a deep breath.
After a while, there was the sound of the door opening. Sol Noctis has returned.
“Chryselua.”
Before she even lifted her head, a sweet and sour scent wafted in the air.
He seemed to have rushed away and then came back running again, evident from his flushed cheeks and heavy breathing. He held a huge basket in his hands, and the basket was full of the strawberries that Chrys had been staring at in fascination earlier.
“Uh…”
Chrys swallowed her saliva at the lovely sparkling red color.
The smell was so refreshing and sweet that she even forgot about the scent of flowers, which she had just found disgusting.
“That…”
Although she should have glanced at the person who brought it, Chrys kept glancing at the strawberries in the basket even though she knew it was a bit rude.
In the meanwhile, Sol Noctis didn’t care about those stares and came over and sat down next to her. He immediately picked up a strawberry from the basket, cut off the smooth stem with a knife, and handed it to her.
“Take it.”
“Ah, thank yo… hmm?”
Chrys took it and ate it right away because he put it in her mouth.
With that alone, her pale face, which had been suppressing nausea until just now, brightened. She watched Sol Noctis pick up another strawberry and pluck the stem, feeling the fragrant juice fill her mouth. Then, he took it again and happily put it in her mouth.
‘No, what is he doing now?’
By the time she had eaten five or six more, Chryselua came to her senses.
“Give it to me. I will eat it myself.”
However, Sol Noctis pulled the basket and tried not to let it be taken away.
“I’ll give it to you.”
“Why?”
“I heard you get dizzy if you move even a little.”
She silently took what he handed to her with her mouth. It was her first time receiving care like this instead of being by her side when she was sick, but it wasn’t that bad after receiving it.
How many times did it get repeated? Sol Noctis hesitated before opening his mouth.
“Don’t be offended, just take it. Isn’t the pregnancy damaging your health?”
“…I don’t know. To begin with, this isn’t common… Even if I could remove it, I don’t know how to do it right now. I have to ask the Lord to find out.”
And now she was ashamed to contact the Lord. She had to solve her mission as soon as possible, or at least find the fruit and properly hand it over to Naskan.
“And it’s not that bad. If I get the right magic, it’s okay… I guess it’s because my magic is poor.”
She felt better for a while when she received magic from Axen Arc, but she couldn’t continue to use that method during the mission. Where can she find someone to do that?
Whatever the purpose, the answer was to resolve the mission as quickly as possible.
“…By the way, what do you mean by the dragon’s selection?”
“To choose someone who will give me magic to use as food for the fetus.”
“What are the qualifications?”
“It doesn’t matter who as long as they have magic.”
“Anyone? What Naskandeolux said seemed a bit different…”
“Oh, that’s…”
He had a lot of questions. Chryselua said grumpily, rolling the strawberry in her mouth.
“Normally, they just take the magic and throw it away… If you go as far as ‘selection,’ when a new dragon is born, they would be looking for someone who can become the father. With that judging… I think it’s a matter of seeing how well you can help, though I don’t know the details because I don’t know if it will happen to me.”
“Judging my help?”
“Yes. I guess it’s something to do with how well you serve.”
“…I see.”
Sol Noctis bit his lip and repeatedly opened and closed his mouth several times. It seemed like he had something he wanted to say a while ago, or rather when he started heading to the spirit world. Still, he didn’t say anything, so there was no way for her to know.
At first, while the sweet taste felt like heaven, after eating the good stuff a few times, she quickly got tired of it.
Chryselua shook her head instead of taking what Sol offered her again.
“There, there is something much bigger and sweeter than this. The color is much redder than this, almost like a rose. I was in a hurry to get it, so…”
“Hmm? What?”
She was just watching him scrambling to get her something to eat.
“I don’t really like strawberries. So even if you give me something like that, I don’t know much.”
“…Really?”
“It just happened so suddenly.”
Although she didn’t mean to, her words came out quite bluntly. She was surprised by her own attitude and kept her mouth shut, but Sol Noctis surprisingly didn’t seem to be offended by it.
“Oh, yes. Right. I heard it could happen.”
“What?”
“I know that your tastes change, and you become fickle.”
“It’s not like that.”
Chrys got angry, but he took off the stem of the strawberry again and put it to her mouth.
“But you still have an empty stomach. I don’t think you can eat anything these days.”
She was so upset that she took it and bit Sol’s finger. It must have stung quite a bit since she used her teeth. It seemed like his finger slightly touched the tip of her tongue.
His shoulders shuddered. As expected, he seemed a bit surprised.
“Are you in a bad mood again?”
He just asked back with concern.
‘When I’m around this kid, I feel like I have the worst personality in the world.’
As she was next to him, she could only sigh. The dizziness didn’t get better at all. Wanting to open the window, Chryselua stood up to get some air.
“I can’t. I need to go out…”
But as soon as she got up, Sol Noctis quickly grabbed his arm.
“What? Let go of me.”
“Where are you going now? It’s so late.”
“I’m so dizzy. It’ll just take a moment.”
“Will, will you… be just a moment?”
She nodded and tried to shake off his hand, but Sol Noctis wouldn’t let go. In fact, his grip became stronger.
“The fairy world is full of dirty people! Do you think they will just give up their magic and quietly retreat?”
“What?”
“All fairies are blind to power. When you say you’re selecting, they took it as an opportunity…”
“What are you talking about?! I’m just going out to get some fresh air!”
Sol was startled by those words and let go of her hand. Chrys sat down on the bed again in despair.
“…Sol Noctis. Are you really interested in the selection? Last time, you got teased because Naskan told you a ridiculous lie. How old are you now to act like this?”
“That… that’s…”
“Why hasn’t our relationship changed since we were young?”
“According to him, the selection is a competition. Then, isn’t it natural for fights to break out?”
“That’s true, but. It’s not.”
Sol Noctis’ face turned bright red, and he stuttered. Actually, thinking about it now, he must be ashamed of his childish behavior.
“Chryselua.”
“What?”
“Is there any reason why I shouldn’t be interested in selection?”
“….”
Chrys was slightly surprised. It was because of Sol Noctis’ expression.
“If it’s because I wasn’t cool when I was younger, give me another chance. I can show a different side of myself.”
“Hmm.”
Sol Noctis hesitated for a while before asking, but this time, he couldn’t even ask again because it was obvious what she wanted.
Chrys wasn’t completely oblivious, either. As he was spinning his words from earlier, it seemed like he actually wanted this.
‘This guy, I don’t know how he is different from the fairies he talked about.’
Fairies were beings who must constantly achieve results and be recognized by the parent tree. Otherwise, they would not be blessed, and they would be looked down on by other fairies and die.
Therefore, all fairies are opportunists. If only they could achieve results, if only they could be recognized, if only they could rise to a high position… they would put aside their pride and do anything.
