Chapter 30
“Uh… ri, right! You did really well. Thank you. You guys are really the best.”
“Then, will you cover up for us then?”
“That’s right, I will. Don’t worry about that either.”
In the first place, Chryselua had no intention of constantly threatening them with it, whether or not they did the favor.
In fact, she had completely forgotten about it.
“Hmm… I see.”
Perhaps finding Chrys’ reaction unexpected, the trainees exchanged glances with each other several times. The parent tree only obliged the fairies and did not give them a proper reward. That was why they were unfamiliar with Chrys’ reaction, who was not stingy with praise.
“Twilight, can we visit your lair soon?”
“That… I would like to think more positively about what you suggested.”
“Yes. Yes. Come anytime.”
Chrys seemed to know why they suddenly changed their minds.
Even a fairy of Sol Noctis’ level faced severe punishment for a momentary lapse. He was renowned for their unwavering dedication and loyalty to the parent tree, often regarded as the epitome of diligence. To witness such treatment befall him, it was only natural for them to feel disheartened.
“Then, let’s go back. Enjoy the festival, Twilight.”
“Yes. You, too.”
It wasn’t until after sending the strict fairies and all of Skylte’s trainees away that she glanced at Sol Noctis. Until now, he kept his head down the whole time and didn’t say a word. Although he raised his head once, he made deep eye contact with Chryselua once before walking away.
She was left alone in an instant. Somehow, it seemed that the storm had passed.
“Hmm. Even though you helped, that fairy doesn’t even show gratitude.”
“Uwah! You scared me.”
Her heart almost dropped hearing the low-pitched voice that suddenly jumped out of the air. She almost fell, but someone grabbed her waist and supported her.
Axen Arc popped out of nowhere, smiling like a fox with curved eyes.
“What. Axen Arc. Why are you here again?”
“I came because I thought Chrys might be here for some reason.”
It was only been a few days, but he had a history of stalking her. He had a good sense.
“Chrys, did you see the ceremony I was doing earlier?”
“Oh… I saw it.”
She remembered the tearful efforts she had made to make Axen Arc behave normally.
“I was really touched.”
“What are you talking about again?”
“During the ceremony, you danced hard to court me. The whole time I came here, I have been shyly thinking about it, but the answer is ‘yes’.”
“Oh please…”
…Were there any normal people left?
Most of the rifts that were briefly opened during the ritual went unnoticed as Naskan promptly sealed them. While a few individuals may have caught sight of them, they chose to keep it to themselves, likely in an effort to avoid causing immediate confusion.
Leaving behind the lively revelers, Chryselua made her way back to her lair.
At the entrance stood Naskan, towering with a broader back than she had previously observed. His long hair, resembling the hues of dawn, was neatly tied up in a high ponytail.
“Dawn.”
“Twilight.”
Despite speaking in a hushed tone, Chryselua’s words reached his ears, causing Naskan to turn around. The sun was setting, casting its golden glow on the scene. With his back against the twilight, his figure appeared even taller than before.
In the divine realm, the esteemed dragons, including the Lord, had every reason not to give up on Naskan. His flawless execution of the ritual earlier, his ability to swiftly address unexpected rifts without causing confusion, and his mastery of refined magic—these were talents rarely seen among dragons.
Even if he had once foolishly wandered around, that fundamental aspect of Naskan remained unchanged, impossible to even conceal.
“You’re here?”
Naskan rushed towards Chryselua, closing the distance between them.
The composed dignity he displayed during the ceremony had vanished, replaced by a sense of urgency. After a short sprint, a flushed he opened his arms and wrinkled his nose, letting out a mischievous laugh.
“Will you let me hug me after a long time?”
“Do you still think I’m a kid?”
“It reminds me of the old days. What’s wrong?”
“Well ……. It is, but.”
“Come. Hurry.”
Chryselua often collapsed when she was young due to frequent minor illnesses. She often fell ill after playing outside for a while, so she returned to the lair with her escort, Naskan’s back. At that time, Naskan was also young, so she didn’t know that he was enduring it silently.
“Hmm. Let’s try it. Let’s see your workmanship.”
“Yes, madam.”
As she approached, he put his hands on her back and behind her knees. As it felt like he didn’t even feel her weight at all, Chryselua was surprised.
As she wrapped her arms around his neck, he was stable and unmoving.
“Now, madam. How is the ride?”
“I have to walk to know.”
“Yes.”
When she was young, it was only possible for her to be carried on his back. However, now that the size difference had become so significant, it had become feasible once again.
While Chryselua herself hadn’t grown, it seemed that Naskan continued to grow endlessly. Even from the size of his hands alone, his palms appeared to be twice as large as hers. His reddish-gold eyes, adorned with a playful smile, always held a profound gaze.
After staring blankly at Naskan, who entered the lair with slow and deliberate steps with his gaze fixed straight ahead, Chryselua came to her senses late.
It took her a moment to regain her senses, almost forgetting to greet him.
“Ah… Dawn, thank you for finishing the ritual for me. You did really well.”
“That’s the same for you. I just did it for you.”
Chryselua didn’t agree, so she slightly changed her words.
“By the way, the one you removed earlier was a rift, right?”
“Ah… yes.”
“To think there’s a rift here…”
“There were still a lot of rifts this year.”
That was definitely right.
Sedition was established with the purpose of resolving the rift, yet even now, the root cause and definitive solution remain elusive. They were able to temporarily close the rift, mirroring Naskan’s actions. Still, from a technical standpoint, it was not a true solution but rather a temporary measure.
Over the years, the frequency and size of the rifts had escalated dramatically.
The occurrence of rifts this year had doubled compared to the previous year, and Chryselua had no idea what to expect in the coming year.
As more and more individuals were dispatched to deal with the rift, the number of people participating in the festival in Sedition dwindled gradually. By this time of the year, the remaining attendees were merely half of what they were last year.
Given the circumstances, Naskan, who was aimlessly wandering in the underworld, was truly mean.
Nevertheless, the fact that the Lord personally sought out Naskan this time indicated that the Lord, recognizing his exceptional talent, was providing him with an opportunity to restore his reputation.
“Didn’t Lord tell you anything?”
“Well, I don’t know.”
That was true. Naskan wasn’t even answering calls from the Lord, so what to do? He kept trying to ignore this issue, but in fact, Chryselua was more convinced after seeing this ritual.
The fruit should have been delivered to Naskan.
“It looked like Lord… is preparing for a successor. It looks like she’s trying to pass it on to you.”
“No.”
Nonetheless, he immediately denied it and he chuckled.
“That can’t be possible, can it?”
“What is not possible… why does she keep calling you to the divine realm for no reason?”
“Lord’s successor or what, you can do that.”
“How do I do that? I am Twilight.”
He sighed. Frowning his brow and biting his lips, this topic seemed uncomfortable.
The light atmosphere became heavy with the uncomfortable topic. Naskan, who was strolling around the lair while holding Chryselua, quickly stepped into the cave-like entrance. As he came inside, it got a bit dark, and his thin pupils dilated slightly.
“…Rather, Chrys.”
“Huh?”
“The ritual I performed for you.”
“Yes.”
“If you like it… can you reward me?”
‘I thought he was taking so much time trying to say something important.’
