———————————————
She didn’t know if it was her or Noel who had eaten, but she instantly raised her hands at the message that appeared in front of her.
‘Jackpot? Wow, that’s awesome! … Not! Who is this damn system making fun of? My heart is restless at the thought of having to part with Mr. Noel soon… Ugh, that’s not it. It’s true that I genuinely like him. But I shouldn’t forget the purpose for which I was first possessed by this game. I will go to heaven only if I do my best to attack the virgin handsome men. I can’t just cling to Mr. Noel. Let’s not forget. I have to f*ck all five of the main characters…’
Sylvia, who had instantly cheered inwardly, lowered her hand and became gloomy again. She couldn’t believe the game sent such a psychopathic message even in this sad situation. She knew the system was crazy, but it felt even crazier today. But upon reflection, the system was not at fault, Sylvia was just over-immersed in the game.
‘Over-immersed… I guess I am. I was possessed by such a realistic game, it would be even more weird not to be over-immersed.’
Sylvia’s head was as cluttered as a tangled thread, but the clueless Noel gently stroked her back.
“Miss Sylvia, you’ll be alright now.”
When she moved her body, the creaky noises had surprisingly disappeared. Sylvia thanked him and kissed Noel several times on the cheek.
When the two came out to the living room, the servants brought them a simple snack. They knew they had spent a lot of energy and were being considerate.
After eating sweet desserts and talking about the fun things that happened during the festival, it was time to part ways. The two came out of the mansion with regretful faces and shared a tight hug at the entrance of the mansion. Noel lightly kissed her round forehead.
“Goodbye, Miss Sylvia. You need to be well until we meet again.”
“Mr. Noel…”
They hugged for a long time in silence. Then, remembering the couple’s key chains she had bought during the day, Sylvia searched the mini bag and handed the small box to Noel. Noel, who tilted his head and unwrapped the box, saw Sylvia shaking the same item on her finger, blushed, and kissed her passionately.
Now it was really time to say goodbye. Sylvia hesitated and screamed, ‘Ah! Whatever!’ and ran out of the gate.
Noel waved his hand until she was no longer visible, then smiled bitterly and entered the mansion.
The two, who were acting like they were not going to see each other ever again although it was only a month-long separation, finally parted ways.
Sylvia, who had been running for a long time, gradually slowed down. Sylvia was walking through the night in tears when she pulled the key out of her mini bag to call limbo and raised her head at the thought that came to her.
‘That’s right, I need to go to the secret shop. Sevis’ birthday present!’
Sylvia hurried away and went to the alley between the tavern and the inn, where she found a hole that looked like a black hole. At first glance, this suspicious-looking hole seemed to be visible only to her eyes, given that no measures to close it up had been taken.
Unlike the procedure the last time, where she had to curse to go inside, this time she just touched it with her hand, and her body was sucked in. Thanks to this, she was able to cross to the other side with ease.
Fortunately, the secret shop was open 24 hours a day, so the lights were brightly lit even though it was night, unlike the other shops outside the hole. When she opened the door, she was greeted by an interior that had changed from looking like the stationery store in front of an elementary school, to an interior that looked like a convenience store in a university district.
Unlike his bum-like appearance from last time, Secret was neatly wearing a collared T-shirt and holding a basket at the entrance. He looked at Sylvia and bowed with a capitalist smile.
“Welcome, dear customer! Long time no see.”
“There were a lot of changes here.”
As Sylvia opened her mouth at his neat outfit, Secret naturally led her inside the store.
“This place is going to change as you progress through the game, dear customer. First of all, take a basket and take a slow look around. Dear customer.”
After accepting the basket and looking around the inside, she could see that the number of items had increased since the last time. She knew that she could get health potions through dungeon quests, but she didn’t know how difficult the 〈Treasure Island Shrouded in Fog〉 would be, so Sylvia, who grabbed a few health potions, also grabbed one or two mana potions just in case.
‘I was able to get health potions through quests, but let’s buy more just in case, and mana potions too. Ohoh, I might become a mage after doing it with Luca, right? The fire attribute… I guess I’ll get a good taste of it.’
She drank a bucket of kimchi soup, covered her mouth, and giggled. Seeing that, Secret failed to manage his expression and stared at her like a madman for a second, but she didn’t care.
She wondered what to buy. There was nothing that immediately came to mind, so as she was circling the shop aimlessly, Secret approached her cleverly.
“Aren’t you going to the island soon? The stand on this side is perfect for that, dear customer.”
As expected from the owner of the secret shop, Secret already knew her every move. He gathered his hands and pointed to a variety of trivial island-outing essential items such as insect repellents, pain relief patches, motion sickness medicine, and so on. As she looked around the stand with her hands behind her back, Secret rubbed his hands, smiled slyly, and stood close to her. Sylvia opened her eyes wide and sharply as if to avoid being taken advantage of.
“You already know that I’m going to the island?”
“Of course. I’m a special NPC in the game world! There is nothing that I don’t know, dear customer.”
“But isn’t motion sickness medicine and insect repellent something you can buy outside? Apparently, it’s more expensive here than in other stores in the game.”
Sylvia patted the items half-heartedly and made a disinterested expression. He curled his lips and gulped.
After a month of exhausting poverty, Sylvia couldn’t help but know how much things cost in this world. She didn’t know any better when she was freshly possessed by the game, but she didn’t intend to allow herself to be robbed anymore.
Roughly looking at the prices of the items, it was almost twice the market price. If he wasn’t a special NPC, she felt like she wanted to give Secret a scolding right away, with the 〈Head Smasher〉 skill.
Secret, who had been dumbfounded for a while by her sharp question, opened his mouth again, managing his expression.
“… Oh my! Dear customer, are you surprised by the price tag? I was so distracted by the shop remodeling that I forgot to change the price. Ugh, why can’t I take this off…! Tsk!”
Secret tried to scrape the price tag on the items with his fingernails, but when it didn’t come out easily, he hurriedly brought a black pen from the counter. Then, he scraped the number on the price tag. When Sylvia glanced at it, what was double the price at first was lowered to half the price, and then one of the zeros was removed as if he thought she wouldn’t buy it.
Behind him, Sylvia secretly snorted.
‘Yes, the secret shop… The name of the shop is very special, but in the end, it’s a place without customers except for me. Since he has to return all these items if I don’t buy them, he won’t be able to overprice them anymore, right? I’m not the pushover I used to be!’
After turning around and frantically correcting the price of the items, he wiped the sweat from his temples and turned his head. Then, he smiled awkwardly and put the items back on the stand.
“This price is just right! Phew, I was surprised to see that. You can make your choice now.”
At his words, Sylvia snorted and looked around the stand, putting on airs.
‘Now the price makes sense. It should be like this from the beginning. He’s looking down on people!’
Now that the prices were cheaper than the outside stores, she felt free to choose whatever she wanted. She put various basic necessities such as insect repellents, pain relief patches, and motion sickness medicine in the basket and looked around the store. There were no unique items that could not be found outside, but as she was snooping around, Secret approached her with a calm expression and his hands tightly attached to his belly.
“What are you looking for?”
Sylvia swallowed a laugh at his polite demeanor, abandoning his seemingly mischievous tone. Then, she shrugged.
“Well, what’s the point of coming to the secret shop? Isn’t it to buy something I can’t get outside?”
“Well, this is the place for that.”
When Secret pulled the curtain that was covering one of the walls, the items she had seen the last time were hanging on the wall, along with some additional items. She swallowed dry at the sight of the 〈People of the Empire: All Nude Mode〉, which made her frown as soon as she saw it.
‘Why is that still hanging? It’s painful just to imagine the hairy tavern owner and the tattooed fat guy all nude. I wish I could throw that away.’
Sylvia, who was disgusted with her bad imagination for a moment, rolled her eyes to the side. The item she really wanted, the 〈Growth Accelerator〉, was still there. She gulped for a moment when she saw the one million gold price tag, which she still couldn’t dream of. She left her regret behind and slowly looked around at the other items on the wall.
She saw some items that she had never seen before, like the 〈Return Scroll〉, the 〈Ending Regression Ticket〉, 〈One After Another〉, and the 〈Midsummer Night’s Dream〉. When she opened the status window to check the emergency fund, 9,500 gold remained despite eating and drinking during the festival.
The 〈Return Scroll〉, as the name implied, was a scroll that allowed her to return home. It was a tempting product for Sylvia, who was going to leave Limbo behind, as it could not swim, because she was going on an island surrounded by sea.
‘With that scroll, I would be able to come home right away without having to get on the boat.’
She didn’t know what was going to happen in the dungeon, so she had to buy that item. It was slightly expensive at 4,000 gold, but it would be worth the money if she could go home with certainty.
‘I want to buy several in case of an emergency, but I don’t have the money. I don’t know if there’s anything else I want to buy, so let’s just grab one first.’
This crazy game could have plenty of endings like 〈shipwrecked while on the shrimp-catching boat, fell on a deserted island, and died while filming a movie like Cast Aw*y for the rest of her life〉, or 〈the boat disappeared, but she didn’t despair and ended up dying of muscle cramps while swimming back home in the open sea〉. So, she had to prepare thoroughly for a crisis.
‘Come to think of it, such an ending doesn’t mean I’ll die right away, does it? Like the ending 〈60 Years of Slavery in a Salt Farm, a Horrible Record〉 that I almost saw yesterday when I was with Luca. Does that mean that if I go that route, I’ll live for 60 years and then come back? It’s so horrible.’
This game required you to die before you could come back to the save point. It seemed that the developers adopted such a system because if you could go back any time by opening the save file, the tension when choosing an option would decrease and the fun of the game would be somewhat halved.
In other words, there was an automatic save point in front of the house and a system where she could save at any time, but it was made of a structure where she could not return to the save point in the middle of the game unless a dead ending came up. So as not to hurt the immersion of the game.
She didn’t think this was a problem since she could come back to the save point right after a dead ending, but after seeing the 〈Slavery in a Salt Farm〉 ending, she became worried. She would have just giggled for a moment in front of the monitor, but now that she was possessed, just imagining it made her feel broken.
In that sense, the new 〈Ending Regression Ticket〉 was a necessary item for her to possess in the game. It was an item that smelled like capitalism… as if it had become available at the shop the moment she felt the need for it.
“How much is this?”
