Chapter 111
[Damian Erverdotte]
Thoughts: How did Siervy realize there were assassins? I guess there will be time for explanations later. For now, the most important thing is to survive and make it back.
Siervian knew that her brother found her actions suspicious, but she didn’t hesitate to take the lead. However, despite her efforts, the situation only grew worse with each passing moment.
“Find them!” an assassin exclaimed.
“Damn it. Are they over there?”
The assassins, unable to overcome their growing unease, didn’t hide anymore and began to act openly. They formed a defensive formation and gradually cornered Siervian and Damian to one side.
The vast field offered no hiding places except for the tall grass. The escape route for Siervian and Damian grew narrower with each passing moment.
“Siervy, get behind me,” Damian said, preparing to fight as a last resort. He pulled her toward him, while she anxiously surveyed her surroundings.
‘What should I do?’
Every time she saw the assassins closing in, she felt a pang of fear in the back of her mind.
“Let’s go that way! Quickly!”
Driven by desperation, Siervian sprinted toward an area where there were no visible assassins. And in that desperate moment, as Siervian’s feet touched a certain spot in the field, something unexpected occurred.
“What…?”
Out of nowhere, a blinding light burst from the ground, momentarily blinding them.
“Block it!”
A powerful force pulled them in, making them dizzy. They felt their bodies crushed from all sides.
The commotion caught the attention of the distant assassins, and they swiftly approached the two children.
“Siervy!”
As soon as Damian sensed something amiss, he pulled his younger sister into his embrace, as if determined to protect her no matter what.
“What is this? How did a magic circle…?”
“Capture them! Don’t let them escape, capture them!”
The sound of the assassins cursing and the clashing of swords faded away. Their surroundings were completely engulfed in the blinding light.
“Ugh.”
As the light began to fade, the two of them opened their eyes again, only to be met with a strange sight.
“Where… where is this?”
The wheat field that had been filled with the intoxicating scent of grass just a moment ago had completely vanished. In its place, a cavernous and dark space stretched out before them. The damp smell of the air tickled their noses.
“Siervy, are you okay?”
Although it was an unexpected situation, Damian first checked Siervian’s condition, holding her tightly in his arms.
“Yes.”
She was relieved to see that her brother was unharmed. Apart from being exhausted from the chase, he had no visible injuries.
“But where are we?”
“Just a moment… the mana has returned.”
After saying that, Damian quickly conjured a small light above his hand, and the darkness vanished in an instant. Due to his light they could tell that this place was not just an ordinary cave.
“That… was probably teleportation magic.”
Siervian nodded, recalling the light and sensation that surrounded them. It was similar to the feeling when they stepped on a teleportation magic circle, but much stronger.
“But how was this magic circle activated? Even magic communication devices were still blocked.”
“I… don’t know,” her brother replied, wearing a perplexed expression.
Judging by the presence of mana now, they had been transported a considerable distance. The magic circle must have been incredibly powerful to achieve that. And yet, how could that strange bead the assassins were carrying prevent the use of mana? It made no sense.
Furthermore, there was another strange thing.
‘Why were we the only ones able to come through?’
As far as she remembered, one of the assassins who had been chasing them had stepped on the ground near them. Considering the usual size of a magic circle, they were definitely within the range that would have taken the villain here, too.
[Damian Elverdotte]
Thoughts: The assassins also stepped on the magic circle, there was nothing out of the ordinary, so why only us…
Even her brother’s thoughts revealed the strangeness of the situation. Siervian had believed that since there was no status window, there were no assassins near them. However, unfortunately, it seemed that there was still one assassin hidden and waiting for them near the magic circle.
‘Is there some other condition that needed to be met?’
It was a curious situation in many ways.
Ever since the assassins appeared, they had been completely disoriented.
“Siervy, let’s find out where we are for now. Since mana has returned, it seems safe to move.”
“Yes.”
Even so, the fact that they could still use magic provided them with great comfort. It was fortunate that they had escaped from a place teeming with assassins.
“…What about Roid and the knights? Are they okay?”
“It might be better for them to move without us. It’s more difficult to fight while protecting us.”
“Yes.”
At this moment, they had no choice but to trust in the knights’ ability. Siervian forced herself to put on a determined expression. They had to stay alive and return to the knights.
“Let’s go.”
“Wait.” She decided to use light magic to illuminate their path, because her brother would need to use his stronger magic detection ability to investigate if there were any dangers ahead.
‘It’s a strange space.’
They were standing at the end of a long corridor. It was natural to mistake it for a cave at first. The fact that they had arrived at the back of this place, as if it was an entrance, meant that the front entrance was somehow blocked. Therefore, they had no choice but to walk forward without any other options.
“There’s nothing special, but this space feels very ancient.”
Examining the wall under the light, it was evident that it was artificially constructed. The corridor was lined with old, crumbling bricks, while the upper part was hewn from solid rock, meticulously shaped.
Siervian walked forward for a while and suddenly felt a strange sensation.
‘It feels like I’m moving in a treasure vault. I wonder why.’
The simple act of moving forward felt awkward as their uncertainty grew.
Suddenly, Damian, who was leading the way, abruptly stopped walking.
“There’s an open space ahead.”
“Is it dangerous?”
“I don’t detect anything like a magic circle…”
The two proceeded cautiously. The idea that the space was changing implied that there would be a change in the situation. As they entered the open space, light burst out from above.
“Siervy!”
“I’m fine. It seems to be a light spell.”
“…I see.”
Instinctively, Damian protected his younger sister and looked back with a contorted expression.
If it hadn’t triggered his magic detection, it was obvious that it was just a minor spell like light. Yet, he had acted excessively due to tension.
It was dangerous to continue like this.
[Damian Elverdotte]
Mood: Very tense
Thoughts: I have to protect Siervy. Stay calm and assess the situation.
Observing Damian’s thoughts, Siervian lightly tapped his shoulder and, concealing her worries, changed the subject.
“What could this place be?”
“…I don’t know.”
When she had the sudden feeling that this place resembled a treasure vault, her tension strangely eased. It was as if she instinctively felt that this place was safe.
“Siervy, I’ll go ahead first.”
“Let’s go together. Let’s carefully detect mana and move forward.”
“Okay.”
They proceeded slowly, detecting mana several times under their feet and in the vicinity. Light from the ceiling continued to illuminate their path. A gigantic light sphere, resembling sunlight, kept emitting light without fading away.
However, they couldn’t see what triggered the magic as it was too high up.
Nevertheless, the light illuminated every nook and cranny of the space like a small sun.
“What kind of space is this?”
At first glance, the space was incredibly vast. Unlike the narrow corridor they had been in, it was a spacious semicircular area. The distinct smell of dust-filled air, indicating that no one had passed through here for a long time, tickled their noses.
The interior was so big that it couldn’t be fully seen from a child’s eye level.
“There’s something over there.”
On one side of the space, there was a broken statue as if it were revered, and intricately carved columns surrounded the walls. The two approached the most noticeable area first.
“What statue is this?”
“Hmm, it’s too broken to tell.”
The statue seemed to be in the shape of a person. However, the facial part was too shattered to be recognized. Only faint traces remained, suggesting that it had once been in a pose of embracing something.
“Is this all?”
“It seems so…”
And there was nothing else.
The two moved around the space anxiously and finally had to look around in confusion.
Since the wide space had opened up, it was only natural that there should be a continuation, but if so that wasn’t even visible.
At that moment, Siervian, with keen eyesight, pointed to one side.
“Look over there. It seems something is written on this wall.”
“This is…”
They had naturally returned to the broken statue. The only place in this space that could be considered a clue was something written in front of the statue.
“Hmm, the writing looks strange.”
“It must be Elvish.”
“Huh?”
Siervian’s eyes widened at the unexpected fact. Elvish? Could the person who created this place be an elf?
Then she heard Damian fumbling and reading the letters next to her.
“I, remember. Lost? Disappeared? That name.”
Urgently turning around, Siervian stared at Damian with narrowed eyes while he looked at the wall and felt the letters.
“Huh? You can read it?”
“Yes. Some ancient spell books are written in Elvish. My teacher taught me a little.”
“Wow, that’s amazing.”
“You’ll learn it soon, too.”
Siervian nodded her head.
Seeing his younger sister’s enthusiasm for learning even in moments like this, Damian felt his tension ease a bit.
“Hmm, the writing is too damaged, I can’t read it.”
However, despite starting to read the letters with enthusiasm, there was no significant progress. It was just a continuous string of vague words that seemed to be about remembering someone. Moreover, the letters in the middle were ruined, making it difficult to read.
“There’s something written here, too!”
