Chapter 1
Preface
1. Ceris
The only creature known to feed on humans. Long ago, it was trapped at the northernmost tip of the Astian Empire as a result of the sacrifice of heroes called Astrun, but now, due to the weakening of its seal, the monsters have come out into the world again.
To transform into an adult, Ceris must consume a sufficient amount of humans. It has no gender, and its upper body is similar to that of a human, but its lower body resembles that of a spider and a scorpion, with markings similar to a tiger. It has degenerated wings on its back and several eyes like an insect, with adults having seven eyes and juveniles having three.
Usually, it keeps its eyes closed until prey appears, and then it shows a response. The whites of its eyes are dark gray, and the pupils have different colors for each individual. When the irises of their eyes are removed and washed in holy water, they become colorful jewels. These are called Ceris eyes, and they are traded at a considerable price.
Its arms are abnormally long, with elbows dragging on the ground. Its fingers are claw-like, sharp and threatening enough to easily cut down a tree the size of a child. It mainly attacks humans using its hands, long tail, and legs.
When it captures prey, a cross-shaped scar appears on its chest, and several teeth and tentacles protrude to chew and eat its prey completely. It usually supports its body with its two arms and moves strangely, but when it detects prey, four spider-like legs suddenly appear from its torso and it pursues its prey at a fierce speed.
Ceris reproduces through fission instead of mating. When its limbs are cut off and placed in a damp and shady place, the flesh divides and another Ceris is born. The knights and priests of the Noktis Fortress have dissected thousands of Ceris, but they have yet to discover a heart organ.
Its only weakness is sunlight. While its soft, jelly-like body can be fought off with ordinary weapons when it is newly born, it is impossible to fight against an adult Ceris without a holy sword.
2. Asturun
Asturun is the name given to the four individuals who sealed the Cerises thousands of years ago, in the northernmost part of the Astien Empire: Lachs Elogot, Aaron Noctis, Celine Bastronia, and Saints Philux.
3. Sacred Ability Holder
One who was chosen by the people’s faith and reverence to become a god, resurrected by Celine Bastronia’s divine power. It is said that after resurrection, they will awaken at least one special sacred ability, and only seven such individuals exist in the world.
4. Sword Master
A knight who uses a sword. To become a Sword Master, one must be born with both talent and physical prowess, making them a special existence highly respected by many knights. There were thirty-two Sword Masters, but all of them perished except for Taylor Eldercus, the Sword Master of the Bastronia Kingdom, after the re-emergence of Cerises.
5. Dragons and Magic
In ancient times there were dragons and mysterious magic, but everything disappeared with the emergence of Cerises. For reasons unknown, dragons disappeared, causing humans to lose their magical power, and as a result, the lineage of magic was cut off. The only remaining dragon in the world is Mahilen, who was sealed in the body of a holy knight after slaughtering innocent humans in ancient times.

Chapter 1
Breathing heavily, Najan grasped her sword tightly. Her arms and legs were covered in blue blood from the fight that had been raging since evening, but she couldn’t stop now.
The field was filled with Ceris. They had swarmed over the walls and were attacking the soldiers. Luckily, there weren’t many of them, and most of them were the younger, gelatinous breed.
She put all her strength into her legs and thrust her sword into the shell of the Ceris as it tried to bite off the head of a young soldier. The Ceris howled and glared at Najan with its glittering eyes. It tried to pull the sword out of its shell but was unable to move.
Najan pressed her body against the monster and drew a short dagger from her thigh. She twisted the blade after piercing the thin neck, and it let out a terrible scream. She felt the sensation of thick, tough veins being torn apart.
Its pungent blue blood splashed onto Najan’s helmet. The Ceris’ body spread out and died.
Najan pulled out her sword roughly and turned to look at the young soldier. The boy’s pants were wet from sitting on the ground. She wanted to reach out and help him up, but she was too exhausted to do so.
The sound of soldiers’ dying cries echoed all around. They were fighting fiercely to survive. They had to hold out until the sun rose. If they failed to defend this place, the fortress would fall.
Najan charged at another Ceris with a red, wet shield that someone had dropped. The cold was so intense that she couldn’t feel her hands or feet. Dead bodies under her feet grabbed at her ankles endlessly.
The intelligent arthropods did not attack the soldiers but instead grabbed corpses and ran through the wall. The Ceris had only one goal, which was to gorge themselves on humans. To grow from newborn jellies into mature chitin, they had to eat the flesh and blood of humans.
Originally, they had been sealed in the north, locked away in a cold land by the sacrifice of heroes from the distant past. However, due to the breaking of the seal, the Ceris had returned to the civilized world.
Due to tremendous exhaustion, Najan’s vision blurred, but she did not let go of her sword until the very end. She tirelessly sliced through the clumsy and slow-moving bodies of the creatures attacking humans.
However, after fighting for five straight days without proper sleep, her head couldn’t bear the weight of her helmet anymore and slowly began to slump forward. As hunger piled on top of her fatigue, her legs started to wobble.
She had to hold on. She had to catch at least one more Ceris. If she died here, if she died like this…
That’s when someone shouted loudly from up high.
“The sun is rising! The sun is rising!”
Amidst the noisy clanging of bells, Najan raised her head. Looking up at the sky, the beautiful blue dawn light was flooding over them. She looked around and saw that many more soldiers than Ceris had survived the night.
Najan stared at the archers who were dealing with the Ceris that she had failed to run away from, and with great effort, she took off her helmet. A cool breeze blew over her sweat-drenched hair.
Finally, Najan put down her sword and slowly tilted her thin neck backward. She had no strength to move. If it were up to her, she would have slept for three days straight. However, as soon as night fell, the Ceris would attack again, and the knights would have to fight to the brink of death, just as they were doing now.
The masters of this world were no longer human. They were too weak before the Ceris onslaught. All they could do was continue to sacrifice soldiers and defend the fortress.
However, this was just a temporary solution. The number of Ceris attacks increased daily. Although the conscripts were now between sixteen and fourteen, what could these young boys and girls do? Untrained soldiers were just food for Ceris. Thanks to this, the fortress was always short of soldiers.
She took off her worn leather gloves and pushed at her messy hair. The flesh on her palms was torn again, and the blood was clotting.
Najan rubbed at her rough palms and suddenly felt someone’s gaze and looked up. A man similarly splashed with blue blood was standing a few steps away.
He was Maximon Elgot, the captain of the Lomsoa Knights, who the Noktian fortress boasted about. Najan quickly clenched her fist and hid her wounds, but Maximon approached her, firmly sticking his sword, which was smeared with silver blood, into the ground.
Maximon forcibly opened her palm and checked the wound. His dark green pupils were indifferent as usual. However, his action of looking at her hand was very affectionate, and Najan didn’t know what to do. Maximon’s attitude confused Najan.
Najan smiled awkwardly and withdrew her hand. “It’s okay. I just scraped it off because I removed the callous the other day.”
In fact, it hurt a lot, but she acted as if nothing had happened. Maximon looked at Najan’s bruised jaw as if she had fought and said emotionlessly,
“So hot.”
It sounded like asking if she had finished her meal. Najan was taken aback by the unpleasant topic of heat.
Fortunately, there was no one around. Everyone was busy removing the bodies of the Cerises and searching for survivors. Najan calmly replied, sweeping her hand over the curse mark on her chest.
“I’m still okay. But it’s almost time for the cycle to come around….”
“You go to the lodging first. I’ll come straight there after I clean up here,” Maximon ordered in a businesslike manner, as if he had expected Najan’s hesitation. Other soldiers were busily separating Ceris heads and thorax. Ceris possessed a recovery ability, so even if a head was completely cut off, it would gradually regenerate. Therefore, the cross-section had to be burned after the neck was cut.
Although Najan wanted to help them, as a knight of the Lomsoa Knights who participated in the battle, she had to obey Maximon’s orders as the commander-in-chief.
“I understand….”
She watched Maximon’s back approaching the busy knights, then calmly turned away. The morning sun gradually crept into the field, but it wasn’t warm at all. It was rather cold.
Was it because her sweat had cooled? She didn’t know. Najan was just tired. It felt like a great hardship to keep thinking about Maximon.
No. This is not the time. Najan had to become stronger. To protect people from Ceris, to be free from damnation, and to find her younger sister Luna, who had been taken away as a sl*ve.
Najan glanced at Maximon, picked up her sword and left the field as ordered. She had comforted herself countless times, but her steps were heavy.
“You’re late.”
Najan had finished her bath and upon returning to her room was surprised by Maximon waiting with a shameless face. She had expected him to return to the lodgings by midday at the earliest. Maximon had a lot of work to do as commander-in-chief.
“I returned early. There’s something urgent to take care of at the lodging.”
Of course, “something urgent” meant Najan’s mating season. The curse would turn her into a beast, craving s*x like a bitch in heat. Without a mixture of drugs and tranquilizers, it was so serious that a normal life was impossible. Fortunately, the solution to resisting the curse was simple. It was to constantly satisfy the issue of s*xual desire to prevent oestrus. It was the only solution.
As Najan hesitated, the door creaked open. Maximon strode into the room without invitation. Urgently, Najan pulled Maximon’s robe off and kissed him fiercely. Maximon, caught off guard, pushed her away.
“What’s wrong with you? Calm down.”
“I can’t hold it in any longer. Please help me.”
Maximon sighed and then spoke again, as if he had made up his mind.
“All right. But as always we must keep it from the others.”
Najan gasped and pressed herself against Maximon’s chest. Maximon’s snake-like tongue slid into her mouth, hot inside her.
Maximon pressed his lips forcefully into Najan’s again, their tongues making a sticky sound as they tangled. She opened her mouth like a young bird being fed, but instead of telling him she wanted something stronger, she pulled him closer.
He slid his hands under Najan’s shirt and tore off her tunic in one swift motion. He tore the bandages from her chest, and her full br*asts spilled out to the sides.
She stumbled as she tried to finish undressing, and Maximon’s arms were around her in an instant. Startled, she let out a short cry.
Her floating legs touched the bed. Najan looked up at Maximon, barely able to push his disheveled hair from his eyes. He was dazed.
He kissed her again and she opened her mouth to receive his caress. His feverish hands squeezed her br*asts painfully. The unexpected pain made Najan moan and turn her head.
A pleasure-imbuing tongue flicked long and hard against the back of her neck. She gasped at the electric sensation. Maximon pushed her further and further into the corner.
Before she knew it, her back was against the wall. As she arched her back against the cool wall, her shapely br*asts protruded toward Maximon’s face. He flicked his tongue over the n*pples, hardened by his kisses, as if to clean them. He ran his index finger over the tiny areola and locked eyes with her, as if trying to gauge her mood.
Najan was ashamed. They had no feelings for each other, just s*x for their own needs, and sometimes when they exchanged glances like that, like lovers, she didn’t know what to make of it.
Maximon bit and sucked on her hard n*pple while watching Najan. She tried not to look at him sucking on her br*ast like a child, but every time she did, he twisted her n*pple painfully.
Maximon stroked her br*asts with as much care as if he were eating his favorite food. By the time he had sucked them hard enough to leave them swollen, Najan’s underwear was soaked with her j**ces. Maximon kissed her cheeks, which had sagged from the caress. Slowly, carefully, as one would treat a loved one.
Najan often felt unhappy about s*x without affection, but she still couldn’t resist Maximon. No, she couldn’t. It would be impossible to have a normal life without him.
The only reason she could was because it was Maximon. If it had been anyone else, they would have used Najan as a s*x sl*ve.
To be continued…
