Chapter 50 – Part 1
I rushed to the office as soon as I finished writing Dad’s and Mom’s names after the class.
“Pant, ah, I’m tired.”
I stood in front of the office and unfolded the paper I had written once more. It was as luxurious as the letter Dahlia had sent to me. In fact, it was closer to a drawing rather than text, but Hilla told me that I was a genius.
“Hilla is weird today.”
He praised me with thunderous applause with each letter. The Hilla who was always petty and threatening was nowhere to be found.
I took a deep breath and carefully knocked on the closed door. The door opened and Dante appeared.
“Lady?”
I jumped up. “I came to see Dad. Can I come in?”
Dante smiled and opened the door for me without asking for permission. “Of course! Your Excellency, the Lady has come. She said that she missed Your Excellency very much that she came running without stopping! Look at her breathing heavily!”
I didn’t say that much, but I was already used to Dante making a fuss and thus poked my head inside to look for Dad. He was sitting in front of the desk inside his office, and I met his eyes at once. I waved my hands at him and greeted him.
“Hello.”
“Then I will bring refreshments for the lady?” Dante went out immediately to fetch some cookies.
As the door closed, Dad got up from his seat and went to me. He then put his hand under my armpits and very simply lifted me up onto the couch.
“I can sit just fine on my own.”
He chuckled. “I know. But why are you here?”
Dad sat on the sofa opposite me and stretched out his long legs. I looked up at him as I compared his long legs to my own short ones dangling in the air.
“Dad, I have something to give you.” I said, fidgeting with the paper I held behind my back.
His only response was a look of confusion.
“Dad, close your eyes.”
Despite my words, he didn’t close his eyes and only looked at me with his head tilted.
I shook my head and urged him. “Quick~!”
“I get it.”
“Here! This is my gift for Dad!”
“…”
Dad’s gaze was ambitiously fixed on my work, a few letters and crooked flowers. He reached out and took the paper from me with his name on it.
“Are you finally enlightened with writing?”
I shook my head vigorously, a little shameless. “Not yet~ I haven’t learned anything yet.”
He raised his eyebrow. “Then how did you write this?” His eyes were still glued to the paper even though he was asking me.
When I thought that I would be praised, I looked back and forth between Dad and the piece of paper. “I asked Hilla to only teach me Dad’s and Mom’s names because I wanted to write them. Otherwise, I would have to memorize them by writing them down on a piece of paper every day.”
’Do you know how hard that is!’
Dad laughed. “So you tricked him to teach you?”
“I, I didn’t trick him.”
’What do you mean tricked him? Can’t you say that it’s ‘studying in advance’ instead of a ‘trick’?’
I snorted and looked at my father.
Dad’s gaze practically pierced a hole in the paper.
’He must have been moved by it. I would have put a little bit more effort into writing their names had I known it would be like this.’
“Cullen Lloyd Descartes, Yurie… Dilton… Descartes.” Dad muttered.
“Hihi~” I felt embarrassed for no reason, so I covered my cheeks with both of my hands and waited for him to give me a compliment.
“Your writing…”
“Yes?”
“It’s terrible.”
I was shocked into speechlessness.
’I mean, it was the first time your daughter wrote the names of her parents, and you say its te—terrible?’
Offended, I stretched my hand out. “Hmph, then give it back to me!”
But Dad easily avoided my hand. Because of that, I had to get off the sofa and walk closer to him as I tried to reach out.
“I am not giving it to you anymore.”
This time, Dad put his hand over his head. It was something that I couldn’t reach even if I stood on my toes.
’Hooh, why is he tall even though he is seated?’
“Didn’t you say it was a gift? Then it’s mine.”
Instead of jumping, I puffed my cheeks and looked at him with eyes wide open. “I’ve changed my mind! Pihne always compliments me, but Dad doesn’t. I will learn how to write Pihne’s name and give it to her.”
I was also in high spirits.
“Rejected.” His purple eyes, which mother told me were like jewels, only looked scornful right now.
“Dad, you’re bad.”
Half-giving up as I said this, Dad, with his raised hand, stopped and stiffened.
“I brought the snack our Lady likes… huh?”
