Chapter 48 – Part 1

Cullen almost burst out laughing again.

Soon after, there was more movement under the blanket and the little girl popped out of it. Her long hair was a tangled mess.

“…Dad?” The little girl’s round eyes lit up.

Cullen crossed his arms as he looked at Mariette leisurely, as if teasing her.

“What kind of trouble are you stirring up again?”

The distance between me and Dad was closer than expected. I could touch him if I reached out with my hand. Because of that, Dad was able to see Kuhn hiding under the blanket. It was fortunate that it was Dad who came and not Pihne.

“Go to sleep quick.”

I kept my mouth shut at the conversation as if it was on repeat. I stared blankly at the ceiling and closed my eyes. Then I opened it again.

“Dad.”

“You know, Dad, you can’t tell Pihne that I slept with the cat, alright…? It’s a secret only between the two of us.”

If he tells Pihne about it, I might pass out while taking a bath in the morning.

“A secret… only between the two of us?” Dad asked, with his eyes wide open, as if he had heard something unfamiliar.

I nodded my head over and over again. “Yes, a secret only Dad and I know!”

I abandoned the blanket completely and got out of bed, approaching him barefoot. And then I reached my hand to him. He tilted his head and looked at me. I grabbed Dad’s hand and pulled him.

“Like this. ugh, Daddy’s arms are too heavy!”
